Julie Caux Publishes Definitive Paper Botany Guide

Paper artist Julie Caux published her guide L’art des plantes en papier on September 3 through Éditions Créapassion.

The 38-year-old multidisciplinary creator leads botanical paper art workshops across Lyon, Villeurbanne, Paris, and Switzerland.

She developed the 18-project volume to teach crafters how to build realistic and imaginative faux greenery using simple materials like crepe and art papers, floral wire, and florist tape.

Mastering Watercolor, Cyanotype, and Multi-Medium Textures

Each of the 18 models featured in the book relies on a foundational construction method involving hand-cut paper leaves assembled with wire and florist tape.

Caux avoids plain, unpainted paper.

Instead, she uses diverse illustration methods to capture natural textures and color gradients.

Crafters utilize watercolor, acrylic markers, velvet paper, oil pastels, and cyanotype processes to decorate individual leaves before assembly, achieving a botanical accuracy that mimics living specimens.

Replicating Urban Houseplants and Whimsical Flora

The book instructs readers on constructing a wide array of popular houseplants and stylized flora suited for indoor display without requiring actual watering or sunlight.

Featured projects span common urban jungle favorites including the Pilea, Sansevieria, silver Pothos, Anthurium, Calathea, Coleus, and the Ceropegia woodii—widely known as the string of hearts.

Alongside botanically faithful replicas, the guide includes instructions for crafting whimsical, imaginary plants born from artistic interpretation.

Translating Hands-On Workshop Instruction to Print

Beyond the primary projects, the publication includes a dedicated technical section outlining step-by-step phases from initial structural assembly to final potting.

It also provides maintenance and cleaning guidance for finished paper sculptures.
