Former Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has sparked a high-profile paddock dispute after publicly declaring that joining Ferrari would be a “dream,” prompting an official statement from the Scuderia to defend current team boss Fred Vasseur. Horner, who left Red Bull in July 2025 following a 20-year tenure that yielded eight Drivers’ Championships and six Constructors’ titles, made the remarks in an interview with The Times.
Christian Horner Addresses Ferrari Speculation
Speaking to The Times earlier in the week, Horner addressed his current status outside the sport and pointed directly to the Italian manufacturer as the ultimate destination for his career. At this stage in his life, Horner stated that there is only one team for which he would accept non-participation in ownership.
“Would I consider Ferrari? I mean, Ferrari is the biggest brand in Formula 1,” Horner said. “It’s the dream. And arguably it’s the sleeping giant of Formula 1.”
The remarks immediately intensified paddock speculation regarding the future leadership of the Maranello-based squad, particularly as Vasseur handles ongoing media questions about his position. Ferrari currently sits second in the Constructors’ Championship, trailing leaders Mercedes by 160 points with eight Grands Prix remaining in the 2026 season. In the Drivers’ Standings, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc occupy third and fifth positions respectively, following two race victories for the team earlier in the year.
Fred Vasseur Responds to Paddock Rumours
Fred Vasseur, who took charge at Ferrari in 2023, voiced his frustration over the constant speculation surrounding his job security ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix. The French team principal admitted that the persistent rumours have created a disruptive working environment within the garage.
“We are not working in the perfect serenity,” Vasseur said. “For me, first, but for everybody in the team, for the media, for 50 percent of the questions to be about this, it’s a bit of a frustrating situation. We are fighting for P2 in the championship, and ultimately, we are all speaking a lot about this, and even for the guys in the garage, to discuss about this, it’s the best discussion that we can have.”
Vasseur added that the situation remains outside his personal control while acknowledging Horner’s availability in the job market. “Mr Horner is looking for a job — that everybody knows — everywhere,” Vasseur said. “But what can I do? Just try to do my best to push the team, to rise them to be motivated, focus on what is better today.”
Ferrari Issues Official Leadership Statement
In an unusual move to quash the growing narrative, Ferrari issued an official statement on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, aimed at diffusing assumptions before the upcoming race weekend in Malaysia. Maria Conti, Ferrari’s chief communications officer, addressed the media directly to reaffirm the organization’s backing of its current leadership.

It is a reflection of the strength of what Ferrari really represents.”
Driver support for the current management structure remains firm. When asked whether he retains complete faith in Vasseur, Lewis Hamilton answered simply, “Yes.”
