Sony Pictures has updated its multi-year theatrical release calendar, securing major holiday and summer windows for high-profile comedies and adventure films across 2027 and 2028, according to an update from Hypebeast. The studio’s schedule is anchored by upcoming tentpoles including a fresh sequel in the Jump Street franchise and a literary adaptation helmed by director Ridley Scott.
24 Jump Street and Treasure Island Secure 2027 Holiday Dates
Sony Pictures has locked down the December 10, 2027 release date for 24 Jump Street, bringing stars Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube back together on screen. Rodney Rothman, who directed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, directs the comedy sequel from a script he co-wrote with Hill and Meghan Malloy. Neal H. Moritz, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Tatum, and Hill serve as producers.
Before that release, Ridley Scott’s new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel Treasure Island will hit theaters on November 11, 2027. Adapted for the screen by Jack Thorne, the project stars Hugh Jackman in the role of Long John Silver, alongside cast members Hugh Grant and Owen Cooper.
Expanded Slate Brings Action-Thrillers and PlayStation Adaptations
Beyond the late-2027 blockbusters, Sony has mapped out several other high-profile additions and schedule adjustments for the upcoming release window. The action-thriller The Surgeon, starring Michelle Yeoh, is scheduled for April 2, 2027, followed by the drama film Narcs on August 20, 2027.
The studio also adjusted timelines for several other projects in development. The Bad Robot production Grandgear, directed by Takashi Yamazaki, moves to a January 14, 2028 release date. Meanwhile, Justin Lin’s film adaptation of the PlayStation video game hit Helldivers, which features actor Alan Ritchson in the lead role, shifts to June 9, 2028.
