Although philosophy behind Kickstarter and similar crowdfunding projects is very romantic, there is no risk. As you undoubtedly know yourself, and we hope that only indirectly, not always everything goes well and projects will reach a happy ending in the form of completion and release. Another example for all be Unobtrusive RPG Alzara Radiant Echoes from the French independent study of Camelia. It was supposed to be a tribute to Japanese RPG with a nice visual style and sufficiently sophisticated mechanisms and tensile fights. The project went through the campaign successfully, in the middle of last June the account closed on 5089 supporters and sums of EUR 294,428. This ranked Alzara alongside the most successful campaigns last year and everything seemed to be flawless. Except that the developers announced their crash yesterday, so the end of work on their game, all without the possibility to return the supporters money.
We’re deeply saddened to announce the closure of Studio Camelia. More details can be found in the update shared with our backers.
Thank you for your continued support from the very beginning. Take care ❤️— ALZARA Radiant Echoes | Wishlist on Steam! (@StudioCamelia_) June 17, 2025
Contribution At the end of the study, he appeared among the updates directly on the Kickstarter campaign page, and the developers are trying to explain what happened. Of course, they confirm at the outset that they are not pleasant and they are said to be grinding themselves by bringing such a message. They recapitulate that the studio was founded in May 2022 out of the money brought by the founders themselves. However, they were constantly looking for investors and any support, which they received, among other things, through Microsoft’s developer. “We had half of the game covered and all we needed was to ensure the development of the second half through Parnter in the field. But as you know, the game industry is going through a severe crisis,” the developers describe.
Despite this, they prepared a playable demonstration, they painted with it several major events, where they had fun with any partners and at the beginning of 2025, negotiations with one of them far away. However, it did not end with the signing of the contract, and people from the Camelia studio had to stand up in the face of reality. Disposal of the studio came because all the money pipelines have dried up, already on April 28 this year. At the moment, the last legal acts are taking place, after which the studio will no longer exist. The development of the game is indefinitely suspended, and there is a slight chance that someone else could ever take it. But if this happens, the authors of the title are sure that they would undoubtedly go in a different direction than they set out for Alzar. But now the most important thing comes.
“As you probably know, to support the Kickstarter project is not without risk – the basic idea of the platform is to help the authors with the implementation of their projects. But this does not guarantee the commercial introduction of their project, and therefore there is always a risk that plans will not take place,” the developers explain. They add that they are not in their power, nor in the power of Kickstarter, to return money to those who contributed to the project, for which representatives of the studio apologize. As you can imagine, fans do not like it, regardless of the fact that Kicstarter does not really give them, but it is said that developers did not communicate their intentions regarding the use of the finances sufficiently transparently. It is obvious that the above -mentioned demo was created for the money obtained, through which people from the Camelia studio wanted to obtain further funding, but the description of the campaign did not mention this, respectively. Only very vague.
“Through this Kickstarter, we want to demonstrate interest in Alzar Radiant Echoes as well as our commitment to transparency,” the developers said in a section of frequently asked questions in their campaign. It is the only place that potentially suggests that money does not serve to complete the game, but to support it during development, which is not enough by players according to comments. In addition, the studio representatives themselves stated when the campaign was launched that they carefully planned each aspect of the game development so that the strict budget and the timetable in which the game was calculated for 2026. But the reality was a bit different, although it is understandable and hard to wonder with the intention of developers. Either way, the next project did not turn out, which really accept as evidence that crowdfunding campaigns can often be very tricky, although some entities use them as a means of preparing their already finished or financially secured projects.

Vortex: from Kickstarter Sensation to Journey’s End
Table of Contents
Teh roar of the crowd, seven million dollars in funding secured, and a vision poised to disrupt an industry. This was the promise of Vortex, a project that captivated the imaginations of thousands on Kickstarter. But every journey has an end,and for Vortex, that end is now approaching. Let’s delve into what made Vortex a Kickstarter phenomenon, its impact on the market, and the lessons we can learn from its trajectory.
The Kickstarter Lightning Strike
Securing seven million dollars on Kickstarter is no small feat. It requires a compelling idea, a well-crafted campaign, and the ability to connect with potential backers on an emotional level. Vortex accomplished this with finesse. But what exactly *was* Vortex?
(Assuming Vortex was a revolutionary new gaming console – adjust this based on actual project)
Vortex was envisioned as a revolutionary gaming console, promising:
- Unparalleled Performance: Cutting-edge hardware capable of running the latest games at maximum settings.
- Innovative Controller Design: A controller designed for ergonomic comfort and enhanced gameplay.
- Open Platform: Allowing developers to create and distribute their games easily.
- A Thriving Community: Built-in features for connecting and playing with friends.
These promises resonated with gamers tired of the limitations of existing consoles. The Kickstarter campaign video was slick, the prototypes looked impressive, and the team seemed genuinely passionate about their vision. The result? An avalanche of pledges that shattered their initial funding goal.
why Kickstarter?
Kickstarter provided the perfect platform for Vortex to gain traction. It offered:
- Direct Access to Consumers: bypass traditional gatekeepers and connect directly with the target audience.
- Validation of Idea: Gauging market interest before investing significant capital.
- Community Building: Fostering a sense of ownership and excitement among early adopters.
