It’s been 11 days since the little EmileTwo-year-old Vanished without a trace in a small village in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region. And after listening to thousands of messages and going to every meter of the town in search of clues, the matter went to the investigating judges on Monday due to the great “complexity”.

“The complexity of the case now justifies the opening of a judicial investigation,” Digne-les-Bains prosecutor Rémy Avon explained in a press release.

Two investigating judges from the center of Aix-en-Provence have been assigned to the case, which remains open to investigate the causes of a worrying disappearance, added the prosecutor, stressing that “all leads are still considered and none have been ruled out or favoured”.

This referral to the investigating judges is explained in particular by “the considerable amount of information collected during the first week of the investigation”, on the spot, in the village of Haut-Vernet, where the two-year-old boy had arrived to spend the summer holidays at his maternal grandparents’ house.

Émile was last seen at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, alone in a street in this small village of 25 inhabitants. Since then, no trace of the child has been found. And that despite the countless trickle of messages received by the police.
