Authorities and organizations have been notifying him for several weeks: the Upper Gate of the Aneto Glacier is very dangerous due to high temperatures. However, some ignore it, causing accidents that take your breath away.
This Monday, a mountaineer has fallen down the slope of Pico del Aneto sliding for several meters. One person has captured the moment of the mishap that, luckily, did not end badly for the mountaineer with what could have been.
“Please: avoid the ascent through the Upper Portillón and the progression through that section of the glacier; and choose the route through the Ibón del Salterillo or the southern route through Coronas,” they ask from Montaña Segura, an organization that campaigns for security in the mountains in Aragon.
At the end of July, the Civil Guard already warned of the danger of the area due to thaw caused by “unusually high temperatures”. A situation that normally occurs at the end of August or at the beginning of September but that this 2023 -as happened in 2022-, has been brought forward.
“Las unusual high temperatures registered during the last months in the province of Huesca have caused the seasonal snow conditions and the fossil ice of the Pyrenees glaciers to become especially dangerous, with the Aneto glacier being, due to the high number of people who travel to the place, a point of particular danger“, reads the note.
