Bennu Asteroid Sample Reveals diverse Origins

JAKARTA – Recent analysis of teh sample collected from asteroid Bennu by NASA’s Osiris-Rex mission reveals a unique and surprisingly diverse composition. The sample isn’t just from one place; it’s a collection of materials from across the solar system and even beyond.

Three new scientific papers detail the findings. One, published in Nature Astronomy, highlights that Bennu’s material originated from incredibly distant locations.

“We’ve traced the origins of the initial material that built up Bennu’s parent body,” says Ann Nguyen from NASA’s Johnson Space Center.”We discovered stardust granules with a composition dating back to before the solar system even formed.”

Nguyen adds that Bennu also contains organic material likely formed in interstellar space. the research also identified high-temperature minerals that originated near the sun.

“all of these elements were transported to a very distant location – the region where Bennu’s parent asteroid formed,” nguyen explains. This discovery demonstrates that some of the most primitive materials in our solar system traveled vast distances.
