AJ Styles Embarks on New Chapter with WWE, Focusing on Talent Development

Following his official retirement from in-ring competition at the Royal Rumble 2026, wrestling icon AJ Styles has seamlessly transitioned into a backstage role with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). His new focus centers on identifying and nurturing the next generation of WWE Superstars.

From Phenominal Wrestler to Talent Scout

Styles revealed details of his new responsibilities on the premiere episode of The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, explaining that his role will encompass talent scouting across the independent wrestling scene, NXT, and the WWE main roster. He is actively “on the internet” evaluating potential recruits and exploring ways to help them improve their skills and potentially join the company.

“I’m looking for talent and I’m looking to see what I can do, if I can do anything for them. If they can secure better,” Styles said. “Little things like that. If there is a possibility of them getting a WWE ID or something, then hopefully I can facilitate and get that to happen.”

Expanding the WWE ID Program

A key component of Styles’ role involves supporting the WWE ID program, launched in October 2024. This initiative allows independent wrestlers to sign with WWE while continuing to work on the independent circuit, providing a pathway for emerging talent to gain exposure, and experience.

Prioritizing Morale and Mentorship

Beyond scouting, Styles is dedicated to fostering a positive environment within WWE. He intends to connect with talent across all brands, offering guidance and support. He is scheduled to visit the upcoming Monday Night Raw in Seattle to engage with wrestlers and assess their needs.

“Sometimes you demand to talk to somebody to see how they’re feeling, and maybe they want to head down to the Performance Center and they want to work on some stuff,” Styles explained. “I’m that guy. That’s what I’m there for.”

A Family Legacy in the Making

Styles is too personally invested in the future of professional wrestling, as he is currently training his son to develop into a wrestler. This suggests the possibility of a second-generation Styles entering the WWE Performance Center and NXT in the near future.

Looking Ahead

AJ Styles’ transition into a backstage role marks a new chapter in his storied career. By leveraging his experience and expertise, he is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of WWE and identifying the next generation of Superstars. His commitment to both talent development and morale ensures his continued impact on the wrestling world following his 2026 WWE Hall of Fame induction.
