Seven games in college football’s Week 10 feature teams ranked in the top 25 of the first College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday, including a 10 a.m. MT start between BYU and Utah and a primetime game between Miami and Notre Dame, ESPN reported.
The selection committee’s debut rankings set the stakes for Saturday’s slate, with ESPN’s Heather Dinich providing instant CFP analysis from each contest. Utah’s victory over BYU keeps the undefeated Utes on track for a top-four seed and a first-round bye, while the loss could drop the Cougars out of the top 12 entirely when the committee reconvenes, ESPN reported.
BYU’s Two-Loss Resume Faces Steep Odds
The committee was already weighing BYU’s loss at UCF, and a second defeat would likely eliminate the Cougars from playoff contention. BYU closes the regular season against Baylor, Kansas and Cincinnati, with no additional ranked opponents remaining. Without a Big 12 championship game appearance, BYU’s two-loss resume probably won’t measure up against other two-loss teams carrying more impressive wins, particularly from the SEC, ESPN reported.
Utah Eyes Top Seed as Big 12 Race Narrows
If Miami and Georgia both lose Saturday, Utah would have a strong case for the No. 1 overall seed. The Utes still face two consecutive road trips—first to Arizona, then to TCU—before returning home for a game against West Virginia. The most likely Big 12 title game matchup remains Texas Tech versus Utah, assuming the Red Raiders defeat West Virginia, ESPN reported.
Notre Dame’s Result Shapes BYU’s Fate
BYU’s resume will also be impacted by how Notre Dame performs against Miami in primetime. The Irish’s result could shift the strength-of-schedule comparisons the committee uses to evaluate two-loss teams, ESPN reported.
