Alan Turing Institute Receives Regulatory Guidance from Charity Commission
The UK’s leading artificial intelligence research institute, the Alan Turing Institute (ATI), has been reminded of its legal duties by the Charity Commission following a whistleblower complaint alleging governance failures and financial concerns. Whereas the Commission has closed its compliance case, it has issued formal regulatory advice and guidance to the institute’s trustees.
Whistleblower Concerns and Government Funding Threats
The Charity Commission launched a compliance case last summer after receiving a complaint raising eight points of concern. The complaint warned that the ATI was at risk of collapse due to potential government funding cuts, stemming from a letter issued in July by then-Technology Secretary Peter Kyle The Guardian. Commission’s Response and Ongoing Oversight
