Road accident fatalities are rising at an alarming rate, wiht 400 people losing their lives on Bulgarian roads sence teh beginning of the year. This was reported by former “Road Police” director, Eng. Alexi Kesyakov, as quoted by NOVA. November alone has seen 27 fatalities.
According to Kesyakov, the primary cause of these deaths remains human error. “People overestimate their abilities behind the wheel, and mistakes are made due to arrogance or a lack of knowledge,” he stated. While driver behavior on highways has improved, excessive speed continues to be a major contributor to serious accidents.
Disturbingly, Northwestern Bulgaria has the highest rate of road deaths in all of Europe. Kesyakov emphasized the driver’s obligation for the safety of their passengers.
“Many accidents happen when ‘dad’ and ‘mom’ are driving,” he said. “The driver must protect the passenger.”
