“To win the regional championship meant so much to me,” Alexis Wade said. The Farwell senior outlasted the field to take the Region I-2A individual cross country title with a time of 12:06.8, Press Pass Sports reported.

Wade Caps Dominant Fall After District Title

The regional win capped a dominant cross country season for Wade, who carried momentum from an outstanding track season last spring. She first won the District 3-2A individual championship before winning the region meet.

Wade and teammate Ava Jaime also helped the Lady Blue finish fourth as a team, qualifying Farwell for the UIL Class 2A state meet.

Fourth Straight Trip to State in Round Rock

Wade has now advanced to the state cross country championships, set for Friday morning at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, for a fourth straight year.

Coach Joe Crabb praised her dedication: “Alexis training habits are always locked in. I don’t see many athletes like her. She is serious about every aspect of her running, her training and her diet. She trains and runs constantly to where have to tell her to it’s alright to take a break. It was awesome to see her win the regional championship. Her and Ava gave us a chance and we were excited to make it as a team. I’m looking forward now to seeing what Alexis and this team can do at state. I know she is going to leave it all out there one last time.”

Wade said the regional title fulfilled a goal she has pursued since her freshman year. “This is something I’ve been working toward since my freshman year,” she said. “I’ve been a lot better mentally and I’ve trained harder than I ever have to be in this position. Having someone to run with like Ava (Jamie) helps me. My goal now is to go down to state knowing I’m going to give it all I have and leave it all out there and see what happens.”

Wade’s favorite band is Elevation Rhythm, her favorite athlete is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, and she uses Instagram. She also loves to bake healthy snacks. Her parents are Nathan and Krystal Wade.

Wade is making a fourth appearance at the state cross country championships this Friday.
