Storm Leonardo hit the Iberian Peninsula, causing severe flooding and forcing thousands of people to leave their homes in Spain and Portugal.

In the Andalusia region of southern Spain, around 7,000 people had to flee their homes due to subsequent storms.

Aerial footage showed large areas under water and very high levels at a dam in the region on Saturday.

Among the displaced are around 1,500 people evacuated from the mountain village of Grazalema, where the president of the Andalusia region Juan Manuel Moreno has warned that the aquifers are “filled to the brim with water” and at risk of subsidence.

Spanish police reported on Friday that they had found a body, about 1,000 meters from where a woman who fell into a river in Malaga province disappeared on Wednesday while trying to save her dog.

Police said the body has not yet been identified, but is believed to belong to the 45-year-old woman.
