Arroyo Baldovinos Sanitation Work Underway in Varela
Crews began drainage and clearing operations along a branch of the Arroyo Baldovinos in the El Parque neighborhood on Thursday morning, reported. Intendente Andrés Watson inspected the sanitation work at streets 1282 and 1213 to prevent flooding ahead of heavy rainfall associated with the El Niño climate phenomenon.
The intervention involves clearing debris from the watercourse, removing obstructions, and installing new drainage pipes to improve water flow. Workers are also clearing weeds along the banks of the canal. The municipality integrated these maintenance measures into an interdisciplinary plan designed to protect neighborhoods during severe weather events, according to municipal statements.
Neighborhood Reactions to Drainage Operations
Local residents expressed support for the preventive maintenance as continuous rain systems move through the region. Bernabé Gramajo, a neighborhood resident, called the labor positive and emphasized the shared responsibility of keeping public spaces clean to stop water accumulation.
Another resident, Antonia Jara, spoke with Intendente Andrés Watson and Secretary General of Public Management Christian Rodríguez during the morning inspection. Jara noted that the official visit provided reassurance regarding ongoing weather risks and offered a direct channel to address daily infrastructure needs.
Municipal Maintenance Across Local Corridors
Public works crews deployed parallel sanitation sweeps across other districts to clear urban drainage networks. Workers removed accumulated waste from storm drains and catch basins near pedestrian underpasses and primary traffic corridors, including Novak and El Molino roads in Gobernador Costa. Gustavo Paz, the undersecretary of public services, participated in the oversight operations to inspect drainage performance across the local infrastructure.
