Andris Ērglis and Liepājas Zelta Koris Shine in “Koru Kari” Season

The new season of “Koru Kari” (“Choir Wars”) on TV3 and the GO3 platform has begun, featuring ten choirs representing cities across Latvia. Representing the Kurzeme region is Liepājas Zelta Koris (Liepaja Golden Choir), led by singer Andris Ērglis, who previously participated in the show in 2009.

A Return to the Stage

Ērglis explained his decision to return to “Koru Kari” was driven by patriotism towards his hometown of Liepāja. While initially hesitant due to existing commitments – including operate at two schools and solo projects – he ultimately felt compelled to participate. As reported by TV3, Ērglis believes he has gained wisdom and experience since his first appearance on the show.

Dedication and Teamwork

Ērglis expressed his admiration for the dedication of the 16 choristers in Liepājas Zelta Koris, who rehearse five times a week, often traveling from various locations within Kurzeme, including Saldus, Skrunda, and South Kurzeme. He highlighted the personal sacrifices made by the choir members, including the time and financial commitment required to attend rehearsals. The choir performed Imants Kalniņš’s “Liedagā” in their first live performance, a song Ērglis described as akin to a city hymn. TV3 reports that judges Edgars Vītols and Andrejs Reinis Zitmanis praised the choir’s performance.

Support and Fundraising

Liepājas Zelta Koris is supporting the Bērnu atbalsta centrs “Dzintari” (Children’s Support Center “Dzintari”), which provides assistance to children without parental care. According to TV3, the monetary prize awarded to the winning choir will be donated to their chosen cause.

Social Media Buzz

Liepājas Zelta Koris has been receiving support from sponsors, including Pure Chocolate, as they prepare for the competition. As seen on their Facebook page, the choir expressed gratitude for the sweet support.

“Koru Kari” Leadership

This season of “Koru Kari” features a diverse group of choir leaders, including Ella, Diona, Asnate, and Andris Ērglis. As reported by NRA.lv, the show will showcase choirs from across Latvia, from Rēzekne to Liepāja.
