Apple’s New MacBook Neo and iPhone 17e: A Deep Dive
Apple has been steadily rolling out new products this week, expanding its lineup with the budget-friendly MacBook Neo and the iPhone 17e, alongside updates to its iPad and display offerings. These launches signal a continued focus on both premium and accessible technology, catering to a wider range of consumers.
MacBook Neo: Apple’s Most Affordable Laptop Yet
In a significant move, Apple has introduced the MacBook Neo, starting at $599 . This new laptop aims to provide an entry point into the MacBook ecosystem at a considerably lower price than models like the MacBook Air (M5), which starts at $1,099 .
The MacBook Neo differentiates itself by utilizing an A-18 processor, similar to those found in iPhones . Key specifications include a 13-inch display with a resolution of 2408 x 1506 pixels, 8GB of RAM, and a base storage of 256GB, expandable to 512GB. It is available in silver, indigo, blush, and citrus colors, each paired with a color-matched Magic Keyboard.
While offering an attractive price point, the MacBook Neo does involve some trade-offs. The 8GB of RAM is not upgradeable, and a Touch ID sensor is only available with the 512GB model. It as well lacks support for Thunderbolt and MagSafe charging, and the included charger is limited to 20W without fast charging capabilities . Apple estimates battery life at up to 16 hours . The laptop supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 6.
iPhone 17e: Bringing MagSafe to the Budget Lineup
Apple also unveiled the iPhone 17e, priced at $599 , . A key addition to this model is the inclusion of MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging, supporting speeds up to 15W .
The iPhone 17e is powered by the A19 chip, the same processor found in the standard iPhone 17, and comes with 256GB of base storage – double the amount offered in the iPhone 16e . It features a 48-megapixel camera, identical to the iPhone 16e, and incorporates Apple’s latest C1X cellular modem, offering up to twice the speed of the C1 modem in the iPhone 16e, while consuming 30% less energy .
Availability
Both the MacBook Neo and iPhone 17e are available for pre-order now and will officially launch on March 11th .
These launches demonstrate Apple’s strategy of diversifying its product range to appeal to a broader audience, offering both high-finish performance and more accessible options.
