Safety Recommendations

At Home

  • Regularly inspect the condition of roofs, downspouts, and nearby drains, ensuring they are secure and clear.
  • Remove any loose objects from outside that could be carried by water, particularly hazardous materials like herbicides and insecticides.
  • Disinfect homes using a solution of 1 cup of bleach per 15 liters of water.
  • Wear insulated shoes.
  • Unplug electrical appliances.
  • Avoid taking out the trash.
  • Close and secure windows and doors.
  • Preserve pets in a protected location.
  • If possible, stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in urban areas.
  • Prepare a family emergency kit containing a first-aid kit, flashlight, radio, essential documents, waterproof clothing, a blanket, a change of clothes, mineral water, and non-perishable food.

On Public Roads

  • Do not walk through flooded streets.
  • Seek shelter in a safe place.
  • If driving, use low-beam headlights, drive cautiously, increase following distance, and reduce speed.
  • Avoid blocking ditches and manholes.
  • Wash hands thoroughly after preparing food and touching floodwater.
  • Drink only boiled or bottled water.
  • Clean wounds with soap and clean water if injured.
  • Do not use medications that have come into contact with water.

During Hailstorms

  • Seek shelter indoors.
  • Remain calm, as the noise can be alarming for children, the elderly, and pets.
  • After the storm, inspect roofs, pipes, and windows for damage. Report any serious damage that could endanger lives to the appropriate authorities.

If Driving During Hail

  • Stay calm despite the noise.
  • Reduce speed but avoid sudden braking or stopping.
  • Be aware that hail can damage windshields, but laminated glass is designed to withstand impact.
  • Continue driving cautiously, as hail often affects a localized area.
