Jefferson City Opens $41,211 in Funding for Homelessness Services
Jefferson City is making $41,211.30 available to local nonprofits through a competitive grant process to fund homelessness-related services, KOMU reported. The money comes from the city’s Community Development Block Grant.
Eligible organizations can apply for the funding to launch new programs or expand existing ones. The city's request for proposals targets five specific community needs: day shelter and resource center services, homelessness outreach and engagement, housing placement assistance, case management, and service coordination, transportation assistance, and shelter operations.
The funding opportunity stems from a recommendation by the mayor’s task force on homelessness, according to a city news release cited by KOMU. Any proposal chosen through the application process will require final approval from the Jefferson City Council.
Nonprofit Shelter Capacity Strains Resources
In September, the Jefferson City Council rejected a rezoning proposal that would have allowed Jefferson City Room at the Inn to relocate to a new space. The current shelter operates with just 20 beds, capping nightly capacity at 20 people. Scott Johnston, president of the Board of Directors for Housing the Community Jefferson City, previously noted that the shelter must turn individuals away during colder months when demand exceeds available space. Room at the Inn reported that it is still searching for a new shelter to move its services to.
Qualified Nonprofits Must Submit Proposals by Dec. 4, 2026
Qualified nonprofit organizations can submit their proposals through the city’s online procurement portal. The deadline for all submissions is Dec. 4, 2026, according to city documents.
