Augusta Man Found Hiding in Fireplace During SWAT Standoff

Augusta, GA – A 35-year-old man, Ricky Lee Manders, was taken into custody Friday evening after barricading himself inside a Richmond County home and attempting to conceal himself in a fireplace, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Details of the Standoff

Deputies and members of the U.S. Marshals Southeastern Fugitive Task Force responded to the 900 block of Horseshoe Road around 6:00 p.m. On Friday, March 6, 2026, to arrest Manders on outstanding warrants WFGF News, The Georgia Sun, The Augusta Press.

Upon arrival, Manders barricaded himself inside the residence, prompting a response from the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team. Negotiators attempted to persuade Manders to surrender peacefully, but these efforts were unsuccessful The Augusta Press.

Discovery and Arrest

Following the failed negotiations, the SWAT team entered the home and conducted a search. Manders was found hiding inside the fireplace of the manufactured home WFGF News, The Georgia Sun, The Augusta Press.
