Doniphan-Trumbull Public Schools Seeks Assistant Coach for Growing Girls’ Wrestling Program

Doniphan-Trumbull Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Assistant Coach to join its rapidly expanding Junior High Girls Wrestling program. This opportunity comes as the school district continues to build on the success of its wrestling programs, which have recently produced state champions and seen significant growth in participation.

About the D-T Wrestling Program

Doniphan-Trumbull wrestling has established itself as a premier Class C program in Nebraska. In 2024, the Cardinals achieved a historic milestone by crowning their first-ever state champions – Dakota Gibson (132 lbs) and Tycen Breckner (285 lbs) – at the CHI Health Center in Omaha Hastings Tribune. The overall wrestling program has experienced substantial growth, increasing from 14 to over 23 wrestlers in recent seasons. Notably, the girls’ wrestling program has seen particularly rapid expansion, growing from one competitor to seven in a single year.

Position Overview

The Assistant Junior High Girls Wrestling Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to provide instruction and support to young athletes as they develop their wrestling skills. This is an excellent entry-level coaching position for individuals passionate about youth athletics and the growth of girls’ wrestling.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach with practices, drills, and skill development.
  • Aid create an encouraging and positive environment for developing wrestlers.
  • Supervise athletes during practices, competitions, and travel.
  • Support meet-day operations and athlete preparation.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for junior high student-athletes.
  • Assist with equipment management and locker room supervision.
  • Adhere to all NSAA, district, and NDE policies and guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; a Nebraska Teaching Certificate is preferred.
  • Special Services Certificate in coaching is preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • First Aid and CPR certification required (may be obtained upon hire).
  • Valid Nebraska motor vehicle operator’s license with school van certification.
  • Wrestling experience and/or prior coaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • On-staff certificated employees are encouraged to apply.
  • Commitment to student-athlete development, sportsmanship, and community.
