(Motorsport-Total.com) – Aston Martin presented the livery for its new Formula 1 car for the 2026 season, the AMR26, on Monday evening. Although the new Aston Martin car was already in use at the shakedown in Barcelona at the end of January, the new design was only shown on a show car in Saudi Arabia.

In terms of color, the racing team continues to use the British Racing Green of previous years with larger black areas in the lower part of the side pods.
“It’s great to finally see the car the way we will use it in the race,” says team boss Adrian Newey. At the shakedown in Barcelona at the end of January, Aston Martin was still completely in black – “to be honest, it was also because we simply didn’t have the time to paint,” he admits.
The AMR26 is one of the most eagerly awaited cars ahead of the new season. Because it will be the first car designed by designer Adrian Newey after his move from Red Bull to Silverstone. “The AMR26 is a decisive step for Aston Martin,” says managing director Lawrence Stroll.
The Canadian spared no expense or effort to turn the former midfield racing team into a top team: he signed a two-time world champion in Fernando Alonso, he had a brand new factory with a state-of-the-art wind tunnel built in Silverstone, and he raised eyebrows by signing Adrian Newey.
“These regulations are the biggest reset that the sport has experienced in a generation, and we are approaching them with a clear ambition: to build a team that can win,” emphasizes Stroll. “Every step we take is systematic – it is well thought out, conscious and aimed at our goal.”
“With the AMR Technology Campus now complete, we have the people, the facilities and the long-term investment to compete with the best. Today marks another important milestone on this journey,” said the Canadian.
Adrian Newey in a new double role

The biggest topic at Aston Martin is of course Adrian Newey, the most successful designer in Formula 1, who has already led Williams, McLaren and Red Bull to titles and is now supposed to do the same with Aston Martin.
A lot is expected of him, especially since completely new regulations will be introduced in 2026 and Aston Martin has given up 2025 in order to pool as many resources as possible for 2026. But it remains to be seen whether Newey has made the big splash: “With completely new rules, the best philosophy is never immediately obvious; the understanding of it only develops as you work on the car,” he says.

“With the AMR26 we took a holistic approach: it’s not about a single outstanding component, but about how the entire package works together,” says Newey, who has also been entrusted with the role of team boss. “The focus was on a strong base, development potential and a car that Lance and Fernando can hopefully get consistent performance out of.”
“Funnily enough, Lawrence stood [Stroll] and I were right next to each other in the pit lane as the car rolled out of the garage for the first time with Lance at the wheel. I think we both had tears in our eyes. It was a long, emotional journey full of passion and hard work to even make it to Barcelona.”
The engine in the rear of the AMR26 is also new: After years of association with Mercedes, Aston Martin is now Honda’s de facto factory team and is exclusively supplied with engines by the Japanese.
“Exciting new chapter” for Fernando Alonso
The drivers, however, are not new: Like last year, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll form the duo behind the wheel. Above all, Alonso’s motivation is high: “This is an incredibly exciting new chapter for Aston Martin,” he says. “We adapt to new rules, new engines and new ideas.”
“With Lawrence and Adrian, we have two of the most determined and ambitious people at the head of the team that I have ever met. The last few years have not been easy, but we have learned a lot, and experiences like this always make you stronger,” emphasizes the Spaniard, who would like to win his third World Cup title.
“Everyone in this team shares the same hunger for success and I’ve seen how much work goes in behind the scenes to give us a car that we can continue to develop throughout the season. I can’t wait to get going and help make Aston Martin even stronger and more competitive.”
Stroll: “Big moment for all of us”
Teammate Lance Stroll is also hoping for a big breakthrough after years in the midfield: “The AMR26 is the first car to come out of our finished campus, and the first as a factory team with Honda – so this is a big moment for all of us,” he says.
And although Aston Martin started the shakedown late and was only able to intervene in Barcelona on Thursday, where Stroll only drove five laps, he emphasizes that the shakedown went “well” and gave a “solid feeling” with the car.
“Now it’s about deepening our understanding of the car with the aim of bringing upgrades throughout the season,” continued Stroll.
“It’s great to work with Adrian Newey and so many talented people at Aston Martin who really give it their all. Next up is testing in Bahrain, where we’ll gather as much information as possible before heading to Melbourne for the first race. It should be an exciting year for the fans.”
