Battlefield 6 Season 2 Launches with New ‘Contaminated’ Map and Extensive Updates

Battlefield 6’s Season 2 has officially gone live, bringing a wealth of new content and improvements to the game. The update, released on February 17th, introduces the “Contaminated” map, new weapons, limited-time modes, and a host of gameplay fixes. Downloads began at 9 AM UTC, with full Season 2 access starting at 12 PM UTC.

New Map: Contaminated

The centerpiece of Season 2 is the “Contaminated” map, a large-scale battlefield set in a European mountainside region surrounding a German airbase . The map supports all player sizes and incorporates both land vehicles and helicopters, offering diverse combat scenarios. Players can experience “Contaminated” in various modes, including Conquest, Breakthrough, Escalation, Squad Death Match, and Strikepoint .

Season 2 introduces a new smoke mechanic, VL-7, requiring players to utilize Protective Masks and manage filters within contaminated zones. Running out of filters distorts the screen, hindering combat effectiveness. This mechanic extends to Battle Royale’s “Synthesis” mode, adding smoke to Fort Lyndon, and “Gauntlet: Altered State,” which features smoke-filled areas and fast-paced objectives .

New Weapons and Gadgets

Season 2 expands the arsenal with several new weapons:

  • M121 A2: A powerful belt-fed machine gun optimized for close-quarters combat.
  • GRT-CPS: A semi-automatic marksman rifle effective at medium to long ranges.
  • VCR-2: A fast-paced assault rifle designed for close-range engagements.

Mid-season additions will include the CZ3A1 submachine gun and the VZ.61 sidearm, alongside free attachments like a light-and-laser underbarrel combo and a hybrid optic .

New gadgets are too available:

  • 9K38 IGLA: A lock-on, anti-air missile launcher requiring engineer guidance.
  • HTI-Mk2: A recon tool for detecting enemy gadgets and drones, and neutralizing incoming rockets.
  • Protective Mask: Protection against VL-7 smoke, requiring filter management.

The AH-6 Little Bird helicopter returns for NATO forces, providing a fast and lethal air vehicle. The Hayes M1030-1 Dirt Bike (NATO) and TM/O 450 (Pax Armata) will be added mid-season .

Gameplay Improvements and Fixes

Game Update 1.2.1.0 includes over 240 improvements and bug fixes. Key changes include:

  • Weapon Recoil: Broad recoil tuning across automatic weapons for improved consistency.
  • Movement: Enhanced soldier movement predictability with refined acceleration, slide, and jump behavior.
  • Vehicle & Gadget Reliability: Resolved issues affecting vehicles and gadgets, including anti-vehicle interactions, and deployables.
  • UI/HUD & Progression: Improved clarity and reliability across the HUD, Battle Pass, challenges, and matchmaking systems.
  • Portal Stability: Fixed a range of issues affecting Portal creation tools and server stability.

Numerous map exploits, traversal issues, and capture logic problems have been addressed across various modes .

New Limited-Time Modes

Season 2 introduces several limited-time modes centered around the VL-7 smoke:

  • VL-7 Strike: Players must navigate areas covered in VL-7 smoke, managing masks and filters.
  • Battle Royale – Synthesis: Fort Lyndon is engulfed in smoke, requiring players to secure masks and filters.
  • Gauntlet: Altered State: Squads compete in a knockout-style elimination format within smoke-filled areas.
