Bergonié Institute Receives Funding to Digitize Cancer Diagnosis

The Bergonié Institute,a leading cancer research and care center serving the South-West of France, has received a significant donation to fully digitize its anatomopathological diagnosis activities. this initiative will facilitate greater collaboration and knowledge sharing with university hospitals across the nouvelle-Aquitaine region – Bordeaux, Poitiers, and Limoges.

The funding will be instrumental in launching the eNovAPath project, focused on the digitization of pathology and cytology services. this involves utilizing high-speed scanners to create high-resolution digital images of tissue samples currently stored on glass slides. These digitized slides will then be accessible to specialists at the aforementioned university hospitals, fostering a more unified and efficient diagnostic approach.

marina Mas emphasized the vital role of philanthropic contributions, stating they “make it possible to realize numerous innovative projects, aimed at improving patient care, promoting better living with cancer and therefore optimizing the chances of recovery.”

Bernard Magrez, the donor, expressed his long-standing commitment to supporting cancer research, noting, “research requires funding to beat the disease. The participation of companies is essential.” This donation underscores the importance of private support in advancing medical innovation and improving outcomes for cancer patients.
