Betty Heeremans Sells 80 Handmade Paintings in Santpoort-Noord to Fund Dementia Research
An 86-year-old resident of Santpoort-Noord has spent her mornings painting to raise money for Alzheimer’s disease research, creating roughly 80 works of art on A4-format paper from her home on Bonairestraat. Betty Heeremans launched the painting initiative after receiving medical advice to seek daily distraction, according to a report by the local publication The Jutter | Hofgeest.
Heeremans began her creative pursuits making potholders and knee rugs before a relative suggested switching to painting. Working from her home, she now paints scenes captured from television broadcasts, clouds, and YouTube videos. Her husband Lud, 87, handles the framing and hanging of the completed artwork. Out of the 80 pieces created so far, Heeremans has gifted 20 to friends and sold one during an annual concert by the Odensekoor Velsen and Beverwijk at the Grote Kerk in Beverwijk.
