TGL to Launch Women’s League, Backed by Alex Morgan‘s Investment Firm

TGL, the tech-focused golf league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is expanding with a new women’s league, set to launch in January 2025. The league will be headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens,Florida.

The format of TGL involves teams of players hitting shots at a five-storey-high simulator screen, followed by play on a rotating green that can change to simulate diffrent hole layouts. The inaugural men’s TGL season began in January 2024 and concluded with a best-of-three final on March 24th, with the second season underway as of December 28, 2024.

This venture represents the latest significant investment in women’s sports by Arthur Blank, owner of AMB Sports + Entertainment. In November 2023, Blank was awarded an expansion franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), reportedly paying a record $165 million expansion fee.Through AMB Sports + Entertainment,Blank also owns the Atlanta United Major League soccer franchise and the Atlanta Falcons National Football league team, and operates the 71,000-capacity Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

WTGL has already garnered ample commercial interest, notably with an investment from a consortium led by Trybe Ventures, the venture capital fund founded by US women’s soccer star Alex Morgan. The investment group also includes prominent investment executives such as Linnea Roberts (GingerBread Capital founder), Jenny Just (PEAK6 Investments co-founder), Susan Lyne (BBG Ventures co-founder), Jen Mackesy (minority investor in Chelsea FC and Gotham FC), and Ellie Rubenstein (Manna Tree co-founder).
