A Focus on Social Connection
Keip believes that as life becomes more digital, physical spaces for community gathering are becoming increasingly important. He questions how many people truly know their neighbors in today’s society and emphasizes the need for places where people can connect in person. He specifically highlighted the importance of community centers and district houses, suggesting they provide opportunities for celebrations and social support, particularly for the elderly.

Background and Experience
Born in Brandenburg an der Havel in 1986, Daniel Keip’s family adapted to the economic changes following German reunification. His father became a bus and tram driver, and his mother worked as a secretary in the city administration. Keip himself pursued studies in Public Law, Politics, and Administration at universities in Tübingen, Potsdam, and Berlin, earning both a Bachelor’s and a Master of Public Administration.
Prior to becoming mayor, Keip gained experience working in the SPD Bürgerbüro (citizen’s office) of Ralf Holzschuher and as a civil servant at the Potsdam Police Headquarters. He was also active in student politics and, since 2018, served as the SPD faction leader in the Brandenburg an der Havel city council. He was elected Oberbürgermeister in a runoff election on November 23, 2025, securing 60.4% of the vote against Steffen Scheller.
Personal Interests
Outside of politics, Keip enjoys cycling and rowing. He is a keen cyclist, owning eleven bicycles, and is able to walk to the town hall from his home in a matter of minutes. The town hall, a late Gothic brick building, is located on the Altstädischer Marktplatz, which also serves as the mayor’s official residence.
