Brentford FC Secures New Investment and Appoints Board Members

Brentford Football Club has bolstered its ownership structure with fresh investment and the addition of two new directors to the board of Best Intentions Analytics Limited (BIA), the club’s holding company. The move signals continued ambition for growth both on and off the pitch for the Premier League side.

New Board Appointments

Prakash Melwani, a senior executive at Blackstone, the world’s largest alternative asset manager and Sir Lucian Grainge CBE, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group, have joined the BIA board. Brentford FC announced the appointments on March 2, 2026.

Existing Investors Increase Stakes

Philanthropist Gary Lubner and filmmaker Sir Matthew Vaughn, who initially became minority shareholders in July 2025 through their respective companies, This Day Sports and Media Limited (This Day) and MARV Bee Limited (MARV), have also increased their minority shareholdings in BIA. According to BBC Sport, this increased investment demonstrates their ongoing commitment to the club’s development.

Matthew Benham Remains Majority Owner

Despite the new investment and board appointments, Matthew Benham remains the majority owner of Brentford FC, having taken full control of the club in 2012. He established BIA as a vehicle to attract further investment. Bloomberg reported on the continued ownership structure.

Expertise to Drive Commercial Opportunities

The investor groups collectively bring a wealth of experience across finance, music, and entertainment, which the club believes will create enhanced commercial opportunities. Jon Varney, BIA board chair and Brentford FC chief executive, stated that the new appointments will support the club’s ambitions as it continues to compete in the Premier League. Varney commented, “We have an outstanding blend of people and expertise in place to help us keep moving forward.”

Investor Perspectives

Prakash Melwani expressed his admiration for Brentford’s progress under Matthew Benham’s leadership and his excitement to contribute to the club’s future growth. Sir Matthew Vaughn highlighted the positive trajectory of the club, citing a competitive squad and a strong off-pitch team. As reported by Brentford FC, Vaughn stated, “It’s a privilege to be part of the Brentford family.”
