François Briançon: The Socialist Challenging Toulouse’s Right-Wing Hold
Toulouse, a city traditionally leaning left in national elections, has been governed by a mayor from the right or center for over fifty years. The 2026 municipal elections present a challenge to this status quo with François Briançon, a 59-year-old businessman and local Socialist Party (PS) figure, leading a unified left-wing list without the participation of La France Insoumise (LFI). The election is scheduled for March 15th and 22nd, 2026.
A Shift in the Left’s Landscape
Briançon’s candidacy marks a notable development in Toulouse’s political landscape. The Incumbent and the Competition
The current mayor, Jean-Luc Moudenc, representing the right and center, is seeking a third term. Briançon aims to unseat him, backed by support from Olivier Faure and Yannick Jadot. The election is considered particularly close and uncertain.
Briançon’s Platform
On March 3, 2026, François Briançon announced his intention to hire 150 additional municipal police officers and establish a mediation service.
