Brown Gymnastics Poised for GEC Championship Title Contention

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University gymnastics team is set to compete for the conference championship this Saturday, March 21, 2026, as the No. 3 seed in the GEC Championships, hosted by Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The Bears will compete in the evening session, beginning at 5 p.m. Alongside Cornell, Penn, and Yale.

Championship Format and Schedule

The GEC Championships will be a two-session event. Teams seeded fifth through eighth – Southern Connecticut State, Bridgeport, West Chester, and William & Mary – will compete in the afternoon session at noon. Brown enters the championships on a strong run, having recorded three consecutive meets with scores exceeding 194.750 – among the program’s all-time best. Emily Ford: The junior gymnast currently holds the No. 1 spot on beam within the GEC, consistently achieving scores of 9.875 in her last two meets. Her National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.815 is tied for 14th in the region.

Sophia Dewar: The senior gymnast has been a consistent performer throughout the season, tying her career-high of 9.875 on floor in three of the last four meets. She similarly set a new career-high of 9.850 on vault on February 13 at Temple, which ranks as the fifth-best vault score in program history.

Addy Whiteside: The sophomore gymnast has shown significant improvement, ranking in the top 25 in the GEC in three events and setting or tying career-highs in four of the last five meets.
