Epstein’s Former Attorney Testifies, Claims No Knowledge of Abuse

(WASHINGTON) — Darren Indyke, Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime attorney, testified before the House Oversight Committee on March 19, 2026, stating he had “no knowledge whatsoever” of Epstein’s criminal activity. The testimony is part of the committee’s ongoing investigation into Epstein’s decades-long sex trafficking operation and the network of individuals who may have enabled it.

Indyke’s Role and Allegations

Indyke served as Epstein’s attorney since the mid-1990s, playing a critical role in managing the financier’s personal, financial, and legal affairs. He, along with accountant Richard Kahn, allegedly helped Epstein navigate legal issues and formed part of his inner circle. Lawsuits have alleged Indyke facilitated at least three sham marriages for Epstein’s victims and withdrew hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash for him. He likewise allegedly attested to Epstein’s character when he faced legal scrutiny.

A lawsuit previously settled by Indyke and Kahn alleged they “chose money and power over following the law” by facilitating Epstein’s abuse, and trafficking. Neither man has been charged with any crimes, and both deny any wrongdoing, maintaining they were unaware of Epstein’s crimes even as working for him.

Committee Investigation and Previous Testimony

The deposition of Indyke follows similar questioning of individuals connected to Epstein, including billionaire Leslie Wexner. The committee aims to understand how Epstein was able to commit crimes for decades with seeming impunity. Richard Kahn, the other co-executor of Epstein’s estate, testified on March 11, 2026, stating he “was not aware of the nature or extent of Epstein’s abuse… until after Epstein’s death.”

Estate and Settlement Details

Epstein named Indyke and Kahn as co-executors of his estate in a will signed shortly before his death, bequeathing them $50 million and $25 million, respectively. Epstein’s estate was initially valued as high as $650 million but was valued at approximately $127 million as of an October 2025 court filing, following settlements paid to Epstein’s victims.

Indyke and Kahn recently agreed to settle a proposed class-action lawsuit brought by Epstein’s victims, which accused them of facilitating and concealing Epstein’s illegal conduct for financial gain. The $25-35 million settlement will be paid by Epstein’s estate and requires judicial approval.

Allegations of Facilitating Sham Marriages and Cash Withdrawals

The U.S. Virgin Islands government filed a lawsuit alleging Indyke and Kahn helped facilitate sham marriages to secure immigration status for some of Epstein’s victims, thereby maintaining control over them. A 2019 civil lawsuit alleged that an attorney – not explicitly named as Indyke – helped prepare legal paperwork for these marriages and threatened a victim who considered divorce, potentially jeopardizing her “protection” from Epstein.

Documents released by the Department of Justice suggest Indyke and Kahn played integral roles in managing Epstein’s wealth and overseeing payments, including alleged payments to victims. Indyke allegedly withdrew hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash for Epstein over four years, limiting withdrawals to $7,500 to avoid triggering reporting requirements. A 2020 settlement between Deutsche Bank and New York state financial regulators faulted Deutsche Bank for ignoring red flags about Epstein’s accounts, with reports indicating Indyke was the attorney involved in the cash withdrawals.

Jail Visits and Character Reference

Visitor logs from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office show Indyke frequently visited Epstein while he was in jail after a plea deal in Florida. Indyke also reportedly helped secure a lenient work-release program for Epstein and provided a character reference vouching for his employment.

Prior to Epstein’s plea deal, Indyke wrote a letter attesting to Epstein’s character, stating Epstein provided financial and emotional support to his family.
