‘Evil Dead’ Star Bruce Campbell Reveals Cancer Diagnosis, Remains Optimistic

Bruce Campbell, the beloved actor best known for his role as Ash Williams in the Evil Dead franchise, has announced he has been diagnosed with cancer. The 67-year-old actor shared the news with fans on Monday, stating the cancer is “treatable” but not “curable.”

Campbell explained he is sharing this information publicly because it will necessitate changes to his professional commitments, including canceling appearances at fan conventions and adjusting his work schedule. He emphasized he is not seeking sympathy or advice, but wants to be transparent and preempt any misinformation.

Treatment and Upcoming Projects

“I’m posting this, because professionally, a few things will have to change – appearances and cons and work in general need to take a back seat to treatment,” Campbell wrote on X. He hopes to be well enough to tour with his new movie, Ernie & Emma, this fall.

Ernie & Emma, written, directed, and starring Campbell, follows a widower as he scatters his wife’s ashes in meaningful locations and reflects on their memories. The film features Campbell’s longtime collaborator Sam Raimi’s family, with Raimi’s daughter Emma appearing as Tatyana and his brother Ted also involved in the project.

A Career Spanning Decades

Campbell rose to prominence with his role in Sam Raimi’s 1981 horror classic, The Evil Dead, and continued to collaborate with Raimi on subsequent films in the franchise, including Ash vs Evil Dead, which aired for three seasons on Starz. Beyond the Evil Dead universe, Campbell has appeared in numerous television series, including Burn Notice, where he played Sam Axe, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and Xena: Warrior Princess.

Positive Outlook

Despite the diagnosis, Campbell expressed a positive outlook, stating, “Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around a whereas.” He thanked his fans for their continued support, calling them “the greatest fans in the world.”

Campbell’s announcement has resonated with fans worldwide, who have expressed their support and well wishes for his recovery.
