Train 1544 Canceled at Brussels-North After Conductor Is Pushed

A train conductor was pushed on board train 1544 at 10:53 p.m. Saturday, prompting federal and local police teams to intervene at the Brussels-North station, BRUZZ reported. The incident forced the conductor to abandon her shift, which triggered the immediate cancellation of the rail connection under standard National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS) procedures.

Earlier Disruption in Leuven Preceded Brussels Incidents

The disturbance began earlier when a group of youths caused a nuisance on a different train in Leuven, requiring intervention from local police forces. That same group subsequently boarded a train bound for Brussels, where fresh disruptions broke out en route to Brussels-North. During the journey to Brussels-North, the female conductor was physically pushed by members of the group.

NMBS Protocol and Employee Support Measures

NMBS spokesperson Britt Monten explained to BRUZZ that standard company protocols mandate service interruption in cases of verbal or physical aggression when staff members sustain physical injuries or experience severe shock. “This train is not driven further than Brussels-North,” Monten said, noting that stranded passengers were able to transfer to alternative services. A second train conductor was on board the service, though authorities have not clarified whether that staff member was involved in the altercation. NMBS deployed specially trained colleagues to the scene to assist the victim with administrative paperwork and accompany her home or to a depot for psychological support.

Ongoing Investigation Into the Brussels-North Incident

Federal police officials stated that no further details can be released publicly while the criminal investigation remains active. Investigators have not yet determined whether the injured conductor will require a period of certified work incapacity as a result of the workplace assault.
