What began as a vision is rapidly becoming a reality in Los Cabos, Mexico. The Cabo Real Surf Club, a private residential community centered around a four-acre Endless Surf wave basin, is currently under construction and poised to redefine luxury coastal living. A Legacy Land Bet

The land on which the Cabo Real Surf Club is being built has been in the Sánchez Navarro family since the late 1980s. Eduardo Sánchez Navarro initially recognized the potential of the coastline, leading to the development of Cabo Real, including the opening of a Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed golf course in 1994 and Casa del Mar. Cabo Real Surf Club now aims to develop the remaining ocean-view plateau.

The Rise of Experiential Real Estate

The concept for the surf basin emerged in early 2022, driven by a post-pandemic surge in interest in both real estate and outdoor activities. Meriwether Companies, recognizing the unique opportunity presented by the existing golf course and the relatively flat terrain, proposed integrating a wave basin into the Cabo Real master plan. This decision wasn’t about replacing golf, but rather enhancing the overall lifestyle offering. Surfer.com reports that participation in both golf and surfing experienced a boom post-COVID, fueling the demand for such experiential communities.

Endless Surf Technology: A Key Differentiator

At the heart of the Cabo Real Surf Club is a four-acre Endless Surf wave basin. This technology, utilizing pneumatic technology, allows for the creation of customized waves suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced surfers. Wave heights can reach up to seven feet, with rides lasting as long as twenty-five seconds. Baja Properties highlights that the basin is exclusively for property owners, eliminating the crowds and wait times often associated with public surf parks.

Addressing the Cabo Question: Reliability and Consistency

While Cabo San Lucas is known for its ocean surf breaks, the conditions are not always reliable. The Cabo Real Surf Club’s wave basin offers a consistent and predictable surfing experience, providing an ideal environment for learning, practice, and refinement. The basin also extends the surf season, offering a compelling alternative during the warmer months when golf can be less comfortable.

A Private Club Experience

Unlike public surf parks, the Cabo Real Surf Club is designed as a private, member-driven community. The development is planned to include just over 500 homes, with infrastructure currently being installed. The target commissioning and test wave phase is slated for late summer 2026, with full operational readiness expected by the end of the year. Construction of surf casitas is anticipated to begin in early 2026, coinciding with the basin’s launch.
