Capitals End Losing Streak with 7-3 Victory Over Flames

WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals defeated the Calgary Flames 7-3 on Monday night, snapping a three-game losing streak. Connor McMichael scored twice, even as Justin Sourdif contributed a goal and two assists for Washington.

Capitals Surge in First, Withstand Flames’ Comeback

Washington jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Hendrix Lapierre opened the scoring at 2:46, capitalizing on a rebound from Martin Fehervary’s shot. Tom Wilson extended the lead to 2-0 at 9:13 and McMichael scored from the slot, ending a seven-game goal drought.

Flames Battle Back in Second Period

Calgary mounted a comeback in the second period, scoring three goals to tie the game. Matvei Gridin scored first for the Flames, followed by back-to-back shorthanded goals from Blake Coleman and Yegor Sharangovich. Coleman scored on a breakaway, and Sharangovich finished a play set up by Joel Farabee.

McMichael’s Second Goal Propels Capitals

The Capitals regained the lead in the third period with McMichael’s second goal of the night, a rebound score. Justin Sourdif added another goal just 23 seconds later, extending Washington’s lead. Ethen Frank scored an empty-net goal late in the game, and Ryan Leonard added a goal with 15.6 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Goaltending and Key Performances

Logan Thompson made 23 saves for the Capitals, while Devin Cooley stopped 22 shots for the Flames. Justin Sourdif finished with a goal and two assists, and Hendrix Lapierre added a goal and an assist. Ryan Strome, facing his brother Dylan, recorded three points in his last two games since being traded to the Flames.

The Capitals will next face the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. The Flames will travel to Modern York to play the Rangers on Tuesday.
