Chef RPG Receives Major ‘Flavors’ Update with Research Overhaul and Expanded Player Home
Chef RPG has launched its substantial Version 0.8 “Flavors” update on February 28, 2026, introducing a revamped research system, an expanded player home, and a host of new content additions.1
Research Overhaul
The update significantly alters the cooking research mechanic, making it a more central element of the gameplay loop. Alongside specialized research trees unlocked through player skills, a standard research tree will become accessible mid-way through Act 1. 2 This new research system involves a minigame focused on meeting specific flavor requirements by combining different ingredients. Ingredients can be stored in the player’s home refrigerator for use in research and cooking.1
The update includes:
- 84 new research nodes offering recipes and blueprints.
- 8 new unique recipes (4 Epic, 4 Legendary) exclusively unlocked through the standard research tree.
Dish enhancement, the process of adding ingredients to dishes, remains unchanged.
Player Home Redesign
The player home has been completely redesigned and is now automatically granted upon completion of the “Le Sequoia’s Soft Opening” quest. Previous home purchases and upgrades will contribute to expansions of the new player home. 2 Specifically, a purchased home equates to Upgrade 1, and an upgraded home equates to Upgrade 2.
Key changes to the player home include:
- Larger home size for increased decoration space.
- New cutscenes for players who haven’t completed the “Soft Opening” quest.
- Relocation of the player home to the left side of Le Sequoia, near the greenhouse.
- Integration of the standard research facility within the home.
- Combination of specialized research facilities (BBQ, Seafood, etc.) into the player home, functioning as extensions when constructed.
- Furniture will be returned to player storage if previously purchased.
- Refrigerators will be combined into the larger refrigerator within the new home.
- Connection of the Trapdoor to the Maintenance Room to the home.
New Content and Improvements
- New Ingredient Makers: Chocolate Maker and Soup Vat are now accessible through the standard research tree, previously obtainable only through random rewards. New additions include the Cheese Maker and Cream Churner, similarly unlocked via research. Milk, a new consumable item, is required for making cream and cheese and can be purchased from various shops and vending machines.2
- Dish Flavors & Temperature: Dishes now feature flavor and temperature qualities, influencing certain quests. This system is planned for expansion in future updates.2
- Sea Traders: Trading vessels now arrive at White Ash Harbor on a fixed schedule: 2
- Tuesday – Vegi Seller
- Wednesday – Junk Seller
- Saturday & Sunday – SS. Ambrose (furniture, seeds, ingredients, and rare items).
- New Character – Sahim: A new romanceable character, Sahim, is available aboard the SS. Ambrose on weekends. The romance system is still under development and will be overhauled in the 1.0 version of the game.2
- New Character Quests: Several new quests have been added, with specific start requirements.2
- Portrait Animations: Laughing and worried animations have been added to NPC portraits.
- Running: Players can now run using the Space key (keyboard/mouse) or the Left Trigger (controllers/Steamdeck), with key rebind options available.
- UI Improvements: Updates to the Restaurant Service Report and Key Rebinds UIs.
