Chile’s government has taken significant steps to address the challenges posed by illegal commerce and informal employment, particularly within micro, small, and medium enterprises (MiPymes). A recent meeting led by Karlfranz Koehler, the Subsecretario de Economía y Empresas de Menor Tamaño, highlighted the need for coordinated action to combat these issues, which threaten fair competition and economic stability.

Government Commitment to Address Illegal Commerce
Koehler emphasized that illegal commerce represents “un acto de competencia desleal” (unfair competition) against formal businesses. He noted that such activities evade taxes and leave workers unprotected by labor laws. The government plans to introduce incentives for formalizing businesses and workers, alongside preventive measures and penalties for those engaging in illegal trade. “Vamos a trabajar en la creación de incentivos a la formalización de las empresas y sus trabajadores,” Koehler stated, underscoring the administration’s
