South Korea Awards Five Webtoons in 2026 Today’s Korean Comics Competition

South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Cartoonist Association announced the five winning works of the 2026 Today’s Korean Comics awards on October 20. animenewsnetwork.com reported that a selection committee of industry professionals, creators, and reader representatives chose the winners from 15 nominated webtoons serialized on Naver WEBTOON. Each winning title receives the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award alongside a cash prize of 7 million won, which equals approximately US$5,000.

Five Winning Webtoons Chosen From 15 Nominees

The selection committee, established in May, evaluated the 15 nominated works to select this year’s honorees. The recognized comics include A Ghost Story in Wartime by Tae-jin Kang, Osaka Loop Line by Hyeona Hyeon, Low Orbit Human by Eun-young Cho, The Journey of Ice and Steel by Uolon Tyranno, and Noh Kyung-Soo by Hiphop Sinsun. Among these victors, Low Orbit Human also secured the Korea Cartoonist Association President’s Award after being chosen from the final 15 nominees.

Comics Day Celebration Schedules November Ceremony

The formal presentation for the awards will take place on November 3 during the annual Comics Day celebration. Established originally in 1999, the Today’s Korean Comics program stands as one of South Korea’s three major comic awards, joining the Bucheon Manhwa Awards and the Korea Content Awards. While four of the winning titles remain unavailable in English, fans can read The Journey of Ice and Steel on WEBTOON, where it has maintained an English serialization since June.
