The City of Albuquerque is actively soliciting feedback from residents and businesses as part of a comprehensive Downtown Parking Study, aiming to modernize and improve the parking experience in the city center. The study focuses on creating a safer, simpler and more predictable parking system.

The Downtown Parking Study outlines several strategies to optimize the existing parking infrastructure before considering the addition of fresh spaces. Key recommendations include:

• Demand-Based Pricing: Adjusting parking costs based on demand to encourage turnover and availability.
• Shared Parking Agreements: Facilitating agreements between businesses and parking providers to maximize utilization of existing spaces.
• Leasing Underused Parking: Identifying and leasing privately owned parking spaces that are not fully utilized.
• Parking Matchmaking Service: Creating a platform to connect businesses with available parking options.
• No Minimum Parking Requirements: Maintaining the current policy of not requiring a minimum number of parking spaces for new developments.
• Exploring Parking Maximums: Investigating the possibility of setting limits on the number of parking spaces allowed in new developments.

Public Input and Study Timeline

Residents and businesses are encouraged to review the study findings and provide comments through March 16th. Details on how to access the study and submit feedback can be found on the City of Albuquerque’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency (MRA) website. Initial results from the study were shared in 2025, with a survey conducted to understand user behavior and challenges as reported by KRQE.
