Friday’s opening evening featured the “IkehalO Night” inside Sunshine City, drawing participants for nighttime photography and karaoke and arm-wrestling contests on stage. Cosplayer Enako joined the Saturday ceremony wearing an original cloud-themed character costume before leading the event’s central cosplay parade. Roughly 400 costumed participants marched a route from Sunshine 60 Street to the front of Hareza Ikebukuro, accompanied by live music from the Tokyo Metropolitan Toshima High School brass band.
International Attendance Climbs at Popular Gathering Zones
Overseas attendance rose to 1.7 times the figures recorded in the previous year, driven by expanded programming for international participants. The popular “Cosplay Gathering” zones added a dedicated “Welcome to IKEHALO” theme for international visitors, alongside workshops where participants experienced traditional Japanese calligraphy and origami in costume.
Foreign attendees praised the scale and openness of the venue. Participants noted that walking freely through city streets in full costume alongside high-quality peers offered a distinct experience compared to overseas events.
The main stage at Nakaiikebukuro Park hosted regular programs including the “Nニコニコ Cosplay-ction” contest, a parent-child Halloween showcase, and a specialized demonstration titled “Wizard’s Work: The Magic of Wigs” highlighting professional styling techniques.
