Lowry, Koepka Headline Cognizant Classic Field
The Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches tees off Thursday at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, featuring a strong field led by Shane Lowry and Brooks Koepka.
Lowry Seeks Success in Familiar Territory
Shane Lowry, an adopted Floridian residing in Jupiter, is making his ninth appearance at the Cognizant Classic. He finished tied for 11th at 13-under in the 2025 tournament and came close to winning in 2022, finishing second at 9-under. Lowry expressed his comfort with Florida golf, noting his adaptation to Bermuda grasses.
Lowry is playing the first three events of the Florida swing – the Cognizant Classic, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and The Players Championship – benefiting from the convenience of playing close to home. He stated that being able to sleep in his own bed and drive to Bay Hill next week makes the five-week stretch of competition more manageable.
Koepka Returns to Hometown Event
Brooks Koepka, a West Palm Beach native, is participating in his third start since returning to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. He described the event as a “true hometown event,” enjoying the opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces.
Other Notable Players and Tournament Details
The defending champion is Joe Highsmith, who won his first career title at the tournament last year. Luke Clanton, a Florida native who earned his PGA Tour card through the PGA Tour University system, is too in the field. He previously played the Cognizant Classic on a sponsor’s exemption while attending Florida State, tying for 18th.
This week is the last opportunity for players to qualify for next week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational signature event via the Aon Next 10 or Aon Swing 5 points standings.
