College of Charleston to Host South Carolina Derby Beach Volleyball Tournament

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston beach volleyball team will host the South Carolina Derby tournament on March 20-21. The tournament will feature competition against Erskine, Coastal Carolina, Tampa, and UNCW.

Tournament Schedule

The Cougars will begin the tournament on March 20th with matches against Erskine and Coastal Carolina. On March 21st, they will face Tampa and UNCW.

Rivalry Renewed: Charleston vs. UNCW

The match against UNCW on March 21st will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. UNCW currently leads the season series 3-1, having won the initial match 4-1 on February 20th in Wilmington, North Carolina. Ella Duffner and Alivia Newberg secured the lone dual win for the Cougars in that first encounter.

Historical Matchups

Charleston boasts a strong historical record against Erskine, holding a 10-0 record dating back to February 26, 2021. The Cougars will also be competing against Tampa for the first time since 2023, with an overall program record of 2-2 against the Spartans.

Coastal Carolina Also Competes

Coastal Carolina will also be participating in the South Carolina Derby, facing Tampa, College of Charleston, UNCW, and Erskine during the weekend tournament. The Chants enter the tournament with a four-game winning streak after a successful showing at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
