SUD éducation 93 calls for November 25 demonstrations over violence in schools
SUD éducation 93, the Seine-Saint-Denis branch of the SUD education union, is calling for participation in all demonstrations on November 25, 2026 — the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women — after publishing a tract documenting what it describes as widespread sexist and sexual violence in schools and a severe shortage of staff able to protect victims, SUD éducation 93 reported.
The union says schools are not exempt from the violence exercised in society. During a mobilization movement that began in lycées in September 2026, students testified once again to violence suffered at school, including through slogans such as “M.Macho” and “Deal with rapes, not our veils,” according to the tract.
Who the union says is most exposed
According to SUD éducation 93, the people most exposed to sexist and sexual violence are women, and particularly those who suffer intersecting forms of discrimination. The union cites figures including: one person in 10 is or has been a victim of incest, with more than 80% under 15 at the time of the acts; 75% of Islamophobic attacks target women; 85% of trans people are assaulted during their lifetime; 80% of women with disabilities have been victims of violence; and more than 60% of LGBTIphobic attacks are committed by cisgender men.
At work, the union cites the 2021 Genese survey: at least two women in five say they have suffered sexist or sexual violence at work, and one woman in five reports sexual behavior at her workplace. A 2024 SUD éducation survey adds that 83% of people who went to their hierarchy after sexist or sexual violence felt they were not helped, and one person in two received no response when they filed a report in the RSST register.
Whistleblowers at Lycée Utrillo in Stains face transfer threats
SUD éducation 93 says the administration must protect victims, not expose them further. It points to the case of whistleblowers at Lycée Utrillo in Stains, who have been threatened with transfer in the interest of the service after denouncing, for more than 15 years, violence committed against students by a staff member at the lycée. The union says it has taken the ministry to court for failing to handle sexist and sexual violence at work.
Staffing shortages in Seine-Saint-Denis schools
The union describes Seine-Saint-Denis as a territory that combines a lack of financial and human resources, hampering support for student victims. Last year, it says, fewer than one in two establishments had a school nurse, while 12 full-time posts were cut by the administration. There is one school psychologist for roughly 1,350 students. Of the 50 mandatory school doctor posts — already an insufficient number, the union says — only 15 are filled.
Why the union rejects the annual questionnaire
In this context of shortages, SUD éducation 93 says distributing a written, anonymous questionnaire to all students from maternelle through lycée comes across as an empty shell: students are already speaking, it says, but nothing is done to enable their care. The union says systematic screening at school is essential, and that the CIVIISE has for several years recommended an annual individual interview in a strictly confidential, secure and protective setting, conducted by education ministry staff.
What SUD éducation 93 is demanding
- Effective application and funding of law n°2001-588, providing for at least three EVAR(S) sessions each year;
- Creation of posts for social workers, psychologists and school nurses;
- A genuine policy to combat violence against children in the school setting;
- Training of all staff on sexist and sexual violence, in initial and continuing training during working hours;
- Protection and support measures for victims of workplace sexist and sexual violence and for those who report it, including application of the March 9, 2018 circular providing for suspension of the alleged aggressor pending the disciplinary council, and protection of whistleblowers;
- Repeal of the 2004 law on the wearing of the veil and the 2023 circular on the abaya, which the union denounces as Islamophobic along with controls on students’ dress.
Union urges participation in protests
