Coop Pank Navigates Declining Profits Amidst Growth in Loans and Customers

Coop Pank, an Estonian bank headquartered in Tallinn, reported a profit of EUR 28.7 million in the past year, an 11% decrease compared to the previous year, according to a recent announcement. Despite the profit decline, the bank experienced significant growth in its loan portfolio and customer base.

Financial Performance Overview

The bank’s loan portfolio increased by 19% to exceed EUR 2.1 billion, although the number of customers rose by 9%. However, total revenues decreased by 3% to EUR 79.4 million, with interest income falling by 6% to EUR 73.3 million. Operating expenses saw a 2% increase, reaching EUR 41.5 million, and the return on equity decreased from 16.2% to 12.9%.

Loan Portfolio Expansion

The loan portfolio grew by EUR 340 million during the year, surpassing the EUR 2 billion mark for the first time. This growth was driven by a 27% (EUR 207 million) increase in business loans and a 17% (EUR 125 million) increase in housing loans. Coop Pank’s market share in the loan market increased from 6.5% to 7.1%.

Customer and Deposit Growth

Bank deposits increased by 9% to EUR 2.05 billion. The bank acquired 19,000 novel customers, bringing the total customer count to 227,000 at the finish of the year. The number of active customers also increased by 9% to 108,000. As of the end of December, Coop Pank had 32,800 shareholders.

Strategic Outlook and Future Goals

According to Arko Kurtmans, Chairman of the Board of Coop Pank, the decline in profit was primarily attributed to the economic environment and falling interest rates, which offset the increase in transaction volume. Kurtmans stated the bank aims to return to profit growth in 2026.

Coop Pank’s strategic goals include increasing its loan market share in Estonia to 10% by the end of 2030, doubling its profit in the next five years, and achieving a profit of at least EUR 60 million by 2030.
