Cornelis Bok Painting Donated at Zijper Museum Tax Day

A painting from 1814 by West Frisian artist Cornelis Bok was donated during the Fourth Tax Day at the Zijper Museum. The donation was made by tax appraiser Hans van Kampen, who believes the Zijper Museum is the perfect location for the artwork due to Bok’s strong connection to the region.

Tax Day Event Details

The Fourth Tax Day at the Zijper Museum allowed visitors to have their own items appraised. Visitors were required to register in advance and could bring a maximum of three items for evaluation. The event, held in the museum’s film hall, drew a large crowd.

Notable Appraisals and Donations

Among the items appraised, a golden necklace from the Edward VII era belonging to Theo and Hennie Hoebe was valued at €850. The couple also brought an atlas by J. Van Leverink, which the appraiser suggested may have been used at a school in Schagerbrug. Theo and Hennie Hoebe subsequently donated the atlas to the museum.

Cornelis Bok was a West Frisian artist who primarily worked in Schagen and the surrounding area. He lived for a long time in the eastern tower of Schagen Castle. His work is particularly well-known in this region, making the Zijper Museum a fitting home for the donated painting.

“Kunst en Kitsch Zijper Museum” Event

Tax appraiser Hans van Kampen noted that the recent “Kunst en Kitsch Zijper Museum” event featured relatively few items that could be considered “kitsch.” Two unique prints by Cornelis Bok, depicting a farm along the Grote Sloot, were a highlight, each valued at €2,500-€3,000.

Future Tax Day Events

Hans van Kampen will host the tax day “Kunst en Kitsch in de Zijpe” for the third consecutive year on Saturday, February 22nd. The event will take place from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a participation fee of €5,00 incl. Coffee/tea.
