Kansas state Welcomes Cory Patterson to Coaching Staff

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State head coach Collin klein announced Tuesday the hiring of Cory Patterson as the Wildcats’ new running backs coach. Patterson brings eight years of experience coaching at Power 4 schools, following a triumphant career as a high school head coach.

Patterson most recently served as the running backs coach at Oklahoma State during the 2025 season. Prior to that, he held positions at Illinois (tight ends coach, 2018-20; running backs coach, 2021-22) and Purdue (associate head coach and wide receivers coach, 2023-24).

“I am excited about the prospect to do something special here at K-State,” said Patterson. “There has been a tradition of great running back play here, so we have to keep the party going!”

Before entering the collegiate ranks, Patterson established himself as a successful high school coach in the St. Louis area. He began as an assistant at Christian Brothers and Trinity Catholic,and later led trinity Catholic to a 27-6 record and a state championship as their head coach.

“Coach Patterson has a great history of developing talent,” Klein said. “His passion for people is infectious, and he is a big part of where we are going offensively.”

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Patterson has a proven track record of developing high-performing running backs. At Illinois, he coached Chase Brown, who amassed 2,648 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns over the 2021 and 2022 seasons, earning All-America honors and recognition as a finalist for the prestigious Doak Walker Award.
