Talor Gooch he has become the first player in the LIV Golf era to reach all three victories on the new Saudi tour. After his victories in Adelaide and Singapore, the American secured his treble in Valderrama, with a one stroke advantage (-12) over Bryson DeChambeau, who had started the day on Sunday as leader. With the four million dollars for this triumph, the bag of the player raised at Oklahoma State University exceeds 13 million in the eight tests played so far.
The atmosphere on Sunday at Valderrama reminded one of the historic golf events in Spain. The outcome was probably not what was desired by most of the public, given that some heavyweights such as Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson or DeChambeau had to give way to the player with the least name. However, no one deserved to lift the trophy as much as Gooch, author of a formidable second round, with birdies on holes 10, 13 and 17.
The final bite came on the 18th hole, with a putt from almost five meters to the flag that resolved his one-on-one against DeChambeau. Koepka, recent winner of the PGA Championship, had buried part of his options with a bogey on the 13th hole.
Valderrama has also raised a new star. The Spanish David Puig finished off the week with his best performance at LIV Golf, concluding with two birdies that left him with a -2 card, four under par in total and ranked seventh. With two under par in the computation of the three days, Sergio Garcia stayed at the gates of the top-10, while Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra closed a discreet week with +8 (position 41).
Regarding the team classification, David Puig’s excellent tournament led Torque GC, made up of the Spanish, Joaquin Niemann, Sebastian Munoz y Pear Myth to achieve the team’s third victory at LIV Golf.
