Costco Releases Borealis Murphy Bed for Holiday Hosting Season
Costco released its new Borealis Murphy Bed, retailing for $1,099.99 ahead of the holiday hosting season, housebeautiful.com reported. The furniture piece functions as a dual-purpose credenza and a fold-out guest bed designed to accommodate visitors in homes with limited spare room.
Borealis Bed Features a Foam Mattress and Wooden Frame
The furniture unit features a wooden construction finished with laminate and melamine, alongside built-in leg levelers built to adjust for uneven flooring. It includes pull-out side tables designed to hold bedside essentials while guests stay over. The cabinet houses a tri-fold, medium-firm foam mattress measuring 60 inches by 80 inches with a thickness of six inches. The mattress is hypoallergenic, latex-free, and constructed with a 100 percent polyester top cover. According to aol.com, the foam requires 48 hours to expand to its full size after initial setup.
Discreet Credenza Aesthetics Versus Traditional Murphy Beds
Unlike standard Murphy beds that feature bulky cabinets, the Borealis model is built to resemble an ordinary storage credenza when closed. The design provides a subtle aesthetic that allows the unit to blend into a room’s decor. Homeowners can place a cordless lamp or a vase of fresh flowers on top of the cabinet to further conceal its function as a bed.
Inventory Fluctuations Make the Unit Hard to Find in Stores
The unit carries a price tag of $1,099.99, which provides an alternative to purchasing a separate bed frame and mattress. However, finding the item at local physical warehouses can present a challenge due to inventory fluctuations. For consumers unable to locate the product in stores, alternative options with similar styles are available for purchase on Amazon, housebeautiful.com reported.
