YouTube Opens Creator Music to U.S. Partner Program Creators, With Global Rollout Planned
Creator Music is now available to creators in the United States through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), Google Support reported, with the feature set to expand soon to YPP creators outside the U.S. The tool lets eligible creators use licensed music in their videos and earn a share of the revenue those videos generate.
Monthly Usage Reports Track Views by Licensed Track
Creators can download a monthly usage report that lists views of licensed videos, sorted by sound recording asset. According to Google Support, the report is available in YouTube Studio’s Content Manager under Reports, in the Licensing section, where creators select the report in the Usage area’s Download report column.
Each row of the report breaks down views by month, viewer country, and the asset’s identifiers and metadata: asset ID, title, labels, type, custom IDs, ISRC, UPC, GRID, artist, and album, plus the view count for the licensed video. Google Support notes that data in the usage report is anonymized when it falls below a certain threshold, and no views are recorded for a country that does not have enough viewers.
Creators Can Trace Revenue Share Through Financial Reports
To check earnings from Creator Music revenue sharing, Google Support instructs creators to sign in to Content Manager in YouTube Studio, download monthly financial reports, then export the list of videos with claims under “Videos with claims” and filter it by “Uploader revenue share.” Comparing those video IDs with the IDs in the financial reports shows which videos generated the shared revenue.
A separate “Creator revenue share financial data summary” report shows the revenue and views generated by a creator’s revenue-sharing assets. Google Support notes that this report is only generated in months when an asset actually produced revenue or views. It can be downloaded in Content Manager under Reports, in Financial reports, in the Ad revenue or Subscription revenue section, via the “Revenue share by videos” report.
Expansion Beyond the U.S. Is the Next Step
The rollout is currently limited to YPP creators in the United States, but Google Support states that Creator Music will soon be extended to YPP creators outside the U.S. Until then, creators in other countries do not have access to the feature or its associated usage and revenue reports.
