Gou Tanabe’s Deluxe Edition of H.P. Lovecraft’s *The Dunwich Horror* Arrives in 2026
Dark Horse Manga will release a deluxe edition of Gou Tanabe’s manga adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror on September 29, 2026. The latest edition will feature over 600 pages, a gold-foil hardcover, and gold-gilded page edges.
Adapting Cosmic Horror
The manga adapts Lovecraft’s tale of Wilbur Whateley, a strange and unsettling child born in the isolated town of Dunwich, Massachusetts. The story follows Dr. Henry Armitage, head librarian at Miskatonic University, as he investigates the boy and the dark secrets surrounding his family and their connection to ancient, terrifying forces. As the synopsis details, Wilbur seeks access to the Latin edition of the Necronomicon, a forbidden text, to further his sinister goals.
Tanabe’s Lovecraft Adaptations
Gou Tanabe has turn into known for his manga adaptations of H.P. Lovecraft’s works, bringing the author’s cosmic horror to a new audience. His previous adaptations include H.P. Lovecraft’s The Hound and Other Stories, At the Mountains of Madness, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, The Call of Cthulhu, and The Shadow Out of Time. The Shadow Out of Time was released in English in December 2025.
Tanabe has also adapted other Lovecraft short stories, including The Haunter of the Dark, The Outsider, and The Cats of Ulthar.
Translation and Availability
The English translation of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror is being handled by Zack Davisson, who has previously translated several of Tanabe’s Lovecraft manga adaptations. Lettering is by Steve Dutro.
H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror is currently available for pre-order on the Dark Horse Comics’ Dark Horse Direct website and through other retailers.
