Hulu Greenlights Adult Animated Comedy ‘Deano’ From ‘Bluey’ Creator

Hulu has ordered a full series of the adult animated comedy Deano, based on the popular web display “Childish Deano.” The eight-episode, half-hour series will premiere on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the U.S., Disney+ internationally, and BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK Deadline reports.

A ‘Spicy Child’ Heads to Hulu

Deano follows the adventures of a mischievous, yet endearing, 8-year-traditional boy growing up in a challenging neighborhood. Despite his circumstances, Deano embraces everyone he meets, from local teenagers to the town’s police chief. The series centers on his friendship with Kit, a timid boy from a wealthy background who is drawn to Deano’s energy and optimistic outlook TheWrap confirms.

‘Bluey’ Creator Joins the Project

Joe Brumm, the creator of the globally successful animated children’s series Bluey, will executive produce Deano, marking his first foray into adult animation. Dean Thomas, co-creator of the original web series, will too write for the show and voice the titular character. David Ferrier also serves as a writer Variety states.

Production Details

Hooligan Animation, the Australian studio behind Bluey, will produce Deano at its Brisbane studios. The production will receive support from the Australian Federal government’s Producer Offset and a PDV grant from the State of Queensland. Co-producers include BBC Studios and 20th Television Animation, with BBC Studios leading the production Variety reports.

Executive Producers

In addition to Brumm, Thomas, and Ferrier, the series will be executive produced by Greg Basser, Tracey Robertson, Ross Shuman, Nathan Mayfield, and Tracey Vieira for Hooligan Animation, and Adam Bailey for BBC Studios Deadline confirms.

Global Distribution

BBC Studios will handle global distribution of Deano, with Hulu serving as the distributor in the United States. The series will also be available on Disney+ internationally and will premiere first on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK Deadline reports.
